For example, if your home is worth $300,000, and you still owe $120,000 on it, the home’s equity is $180,000.

As time goes on, and you keep paying your mortgage and other loans on your home, your equity increases. It will also increase as the value of your property goes up. For example, if the property value of your area goes up due to certain developments, then your home’s equity goes up as well, even if you don’t do anything to it. It can also go up with home improvement projects that you do on your home. If you make renovations, like in your kitchen or your bathroom, this also increases the value of your home, thereby increasing your home equity as well.
